UK Awareness Campaign Leads to More Testing and Treatment

Categories: Winter 2018

Earlier this year, the UK newspaper The Daily Mail led a prostate cancer awareness campaign following a report that prostate cancer deaths had overtaken breast cancer deaths in the country. The campaign also called for more funding for prostate cancer.

The awareness campaign appears to have had a significant impact, along with some British celebrities sharing their prostate cancer stories with the public. In October, the newspaper reported a 36% increase in the number of patients being treated for urological cancers in the UK between April and July of this year, compared to the same period in 2017. This means that close to 4,000 more men were treated this year than last year. UK government and National Health Service leadership have also announced increased funding for prostate cancer.
